In many traditions, the feet of the Master are sacred. Like sand in a glass of water settles to the bottom, the Shakti, the spiritual energy, the power of the Guru settles to the feet. We pranam, or bow to the feet of the Master, to absorb this Shakti directly into the third eye of the forehead and into the pineal gland in the center of the brain, the seat of enlightenment.

Since the Guru is our own reflection of Divinity embodied, to bow to the feet of the Master is also to honor and offer gratitude to our own Higher Self, our own Divinity, our own true nature. To pranam to the Feet is to surrender, to offer oneself to the Guru, to our Highest.
